Maria Atilano is the Student Outreach Librarian at the University of North Florida’s Thomas G. Carpenter Library in Jacksonville, Florida. She began working in academic libraries in 2002 as a student employee while studying at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Before becoming a librarian, Maria held staff positions as Library Services Specialist in Public Services and Sr. Library Services Associate in Special Collections at UNF. John W. Daniels, Jr., is Teaching & Learning Librarian and adjunct professor of Humanities at Flagler College. He also serves as professor of Old Testament for the Ministry Formation Program of the Diocese of St. Augustine, Florida. Tom Messner has served in academic libraries for almost three decades in public and private universities and colleges in Florida and Oklahoma. He currently serves as the Executive Dean of the Library and Learning Commons at Florida State College at Jacksonville, one of the largest higher education institutions in the nation. He has previously held Director positions at Barry University in Miami, Florida, and Northeastern State University in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He began his career in higher education as a business librarian at the University of Tulsa, in Tulsa. Oklahoma. He received his MLIS degree from the University of Oklahoma.
He has served in several leadership positions in state and regional library professional organizations including Florida’s South East Florida Library Information Network (SEFLIN), the Members Council on Library Services (MCLS) which represents the forty public higher education institutions in Florida.
He is dedicated to helping academic libraries find ways to collaboratively fulfill the evolving needs of higher education to support student and faculty success.
For nineteen years, I have been performing information literacy services, reference, instruction, supervision, collection management, and outreach. Currently, I serve as a reference, teaching, and outreach librarian at Stetson University. I supervised between 15-18 library assistants and help manage the library building as the Information Desk Librarian at Lynn University (Boca Raton).
I am a writer and content creator and have developed accessible, instructional and promotional content for public and academic libraries. In sixteen years at the Birmingham Public Library, I gained much experience working in a multi-location environment in a variety of capacities. I developed the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all levels of the organization. I served on the Public Relations Committee for twelve years with staff from across the entire system. I also served on the social media and Library 2.0 committee, a group dedicated to creating digital assets such as tutorials and videos for teaching, training, and promoting library resources and services. I built the Twitter account and helped with many integrated marketing campaigns, working closing with internal staff as well as outside partners throughout the city of Birmingham to promote the library’s services and to tell the library’s story.
I have been fortunate to lead the Friends of the Library; create programming; devellop strategic plans; manage outreach; and provide high-quality instruction, research, and reference.
I earned a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from Ohio University and a master’s degree in library science from Indiana University. I have been a librarian for twenty-four years and has worked in academic or public libraries for twenty-nine years. I’ve been the director of the Proctor Library for six years, and a member of the Proctor Library staff for twenty-three years. I am currently responsible for managing and supervising all library staff (professional librarians, support staff and student library assistants), preparing and executing the annual budget of the library, approving orders of print and electronic materials and equipment in support of the College’s academic curriculum, and providing the leadership, vision and strategic direction of the Proctor Library.
Prior to my arrival at Flagler College, I began my career in libraries as a student assistant at the Alden Library at Ohio University in 1991. Upon his graduation from that institution, I was named the head of distance learning at the Batesville Memorial Public Library in Indiana in 1994. While working at this public library, I was promoted to assistant director in 1998. Over my career at Flagler College, I’ve earned the Dean’s Award for Leadership and Service twice, first in 2009 and again in 2018. I have also served as a member of the board of directors of NEFLIN (Northeast Florida Library and Information Network) from 2006-2012 and was named president of the board in 2011.
Howdy! I started volunteering in libraries when I was twelve and have never left, and have worked/volunteered in public, academic, school, or law libraries. I have been at Flagler College since graduating with my MA in Library Science from USF in 2007, and in 2012 I founded Special Collections at Flagler College. Other duties include serving as one of the internship supervisors, creating displays, reference, instruction, preservation and disaster preparation, and being one half of the team for Meet the Collections and Curators (a twice a semester event introducing students, staff, and faculty to the items housed in the Archives or Special Collections). Special Collections has one student worker whom I supervise.
I have many interests outside of work including taking part in living history demonstrations when the opportunity arises.
My name is Caitlin and I am the Access Services Librarian at Flagler College, where I have worked full-time since 2014. My position encompasses a variety of things, including library research instruction, hiring and management of student employees, system administration of our Sierra ILS, graphic design and desktop publishing, outreach, and occasionally programming and displays. I act as a liaison to the behavioral sciences and art & design departments on our campus. I’m proficient in XHTML and CSS.
In my time away from the Proctor Library, I enjoy reading, writing, games, music, and spending time with my family.
